Directories are different from search engines in that listings are
decided by an editor, not a search robot. If you don't submit to the
directories, you will not be listed in them. The optimisation techniques
for good search engine ranking (page titles, meta tags, etc) do not
influence your ranking in the directories.
All directories require you to select the appropriate category for
your site, submit a title, a description, your site url, and your name
and email address. You should prepare this offline and save it in a
special file. When it comes to submitting (or resubmitting), just cut
and paste the required information into the submission form. This will
prevent spelling errors and other typos, in addition to saving time
during the submission process.
You should always submit your home page to the directories first (rather
than sub-pages).
Research the directory categories to find the best one for your business.
Choose a short, descriptive title.
Use an accurate description of your site. Try to include some keywords.
Do not include any hype (like "the best", "great", "fantastic", etc).
Put your most important keyword phrase at the beginning, since the directory
editor may shorten or change your description. Model your description
on existing listings and modify them to suit your needs.
By submitting a short, descriptive title and accurate description without
hype, your submission is less likely to be edited.
Once you are listed in a directory, you do not need to resubmit your
site.
